2010/2011 MITE HOUSE DIVISION

Welcome to the 2010/2011 Mite House Division.  Below are details about the upcoming mite season.   If, after reviewing this information, you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at mites@cascobayhockey.com.  Also, please mark you calendars for our Thanksgiving Cross Ice Tournament (November 27 and 28), and our Friendship Tournament on March 5, 6 and 7.  If you have any interest in serving as a mite coach or assistant coach, please contact me.  I look forward to seeing you and your children at the rinks!

Eben Adams

Mite Division Director

        1.      General: The 2010/2011 Casco Bay Hockey Mite House Division is open to boys and girls with birth years of 2002, 2003 or 2004 who have played at least one year in the Casco Bay Hockey Initiation Program (not including Break The Ice) and who live in one of the towns served by Casco Bay Hockey (Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, Gray, New Gloucester, North Yarmouth, Portland, Pownal, So Portland, and Yarmouth).

        2.      Registration: On the homepage, click on “Online Registration” and follow the instructions.  Note that the registration process has to be completed for a player before he/she will be allowed on the ice – this includes evaluations – and this policy shall be STRICTLY ENFORCED.

        3.      Evaluations: The schedule for evaluations for the Mites House Division is as follows (each mite is scheduled to skate twice, and each session is one hour):

Wednesday, September 29, 6:10pm Family Ice - Last Names starting from A to G

Friday, October 1, 6:10pm Family Ice - Last names starting from H to M

Friday, October 1, 7:20pm Family Ice - Last names starting from N to Z

Saturday October 2, 1:30pm Family Ice - Last names starting from A to G

Saturday October 2, 2:40pm Family Ice - Last names starting from H to M

Saturday October 2, 3:50pm Family Ice - Last names starting from
N to Z

The purpose of evaluations is to ensure that the teams are as evenly matched as possible – this is not a tryout.  All eligible skaters will be placed on a team.  If your child is not able to attend one of his/her designated evaluation sessions, please send me an e-mail.

        4.      Selection of Teams After all of the evaluation sessions have been completed, the coaches will hold a draft to select the teams.  The coaches will then contact their players directly by phone or e-mail.

        5.      Season: The season will consist of approximately 40 hours of total ice team (which will include evaluations and an end-of-year tournament).  This will average out to approximately 2 hours of ice time per week, with some weeks having more and some having less.  Note that most of the ice time for the mites teams will be Saturday and Sunday mornings.  The early morning times (e.g., 6:00 am) will be spread among the teams as evenly as possible.  The practice and game schedule for each month will be posted on-line as far in advance as possible.  However, please check this website for possible schedule changes throughout the season (including the day of the scheduled game/practice). The season will start the weekend of October 9-10 and will end with our Friendship Tournament the weekend of March 5, 6 and 7.

        6.      Cross Ice Games For at least the first half of the season, the mites will regularly play cross ice games.  Casco Bay Hockey has found cross ice games to be a very effective (and fun) teaching tool for mite age players.  If you have any questions or concerns about cross ice games, please contact me.  All the mite teams will participate in a cross ice, round-robin tournament held on the Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving, November 27 and 28.

        7.      Friendship TournamentIn addition to the regular season, all mite house teams will play 3 games in Casco Bay Hockey’s mite friendship tournament scheduled for March 4, 5 and 6, 2011.

         8.      Extended Play: We anticipate that there will two Extended Play opportunities available for Mites this year, a full ice program and a cross ice program. We expect the full ice program to include two teams that will play each other in full ice games and play mite EP teams from other programs. The full ice program will be for more skilled players and will run during the second half of our season. The cross ice program will be available to all mites who do not participate in the full ice program. The cross ice program will run after our Friendship Tournament and will consist of cross ice games for March, and perhaps into April. All extended play programs are in addition to the House program, and will require an additional registration and an additional fee. More details on the Extended Play programs will be made available later this fall.
