2010/2011 PEEWEE HOUSE DIVISION

Welcome to the 2010/2011 Casco Bay Hockey Peewee House Division season!  If you have any questions related to the Peewee House Division, please contact the Peewee Director Shelley Verrill peewees@cascobayhockey.com.

General

The 2010/2011 Casco Bay Hockey Peewee House Division is open to boys and girls with birth years of 1998 or 1999 who live in one of the towns served by Casco Bay Hockey which include; Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, Gray, New Gloucester, North Yarmouth, Portland, Pownal, South Portland, and Yarmouth.

Incoming skaters with no hockey experience must first skate in the Initiation division regardless their age.  Initiation focuses on building skill and confidence prior to joining their age division and participating in games.  This is particularly important at the Peewee level for safety of all players as this is the level that checking begins.

Registration

On the homepage, click on “Online Registration” and follow the instructions.

All players must register with USA Hockey and Casco Bay Hockey PRIOR to the first evaluation.  Players will not be allowed onto the ice for evaluations without proof of registration.  This policy will be STRICTLY ENFORCED for the 2010/2011 season.

 Evaluations
  & Team Placement

Peewee Evaluations have been scheduled.  Evaluations will be held at two different rinks, so please make sure you have the correct rink and time for your letter group.

This year we have chosen to offer a checking clinic for all Peewee aged skaters instead of a third evaluation.  The clinic is not mandatory but strongly encouraged for both first and second year Peeweew for safety of all skaters.  It is very important for all Peewees to learn how to check properly as well as how to receive a check.  I do hope this will relieve a lot of anxiety of first year Peewees (and their parents!)

Please remember to register with both USA Hockey and Casco Bay Hockey Association prior to evaluations by visiting the registration home page.  See you at the rink!

The draft will be held Monday October 4th.  Coaches will notify skaters which team they are on as soon as possible, as our season begins October 8th. Please make sure to use a current email address  and telephone number when you register so your coach may contact you.

 Season

The season will consist of approximately 40 hours of total ice team (which will include an end-of-year house tournament).  This will average out to approximately 2 hours of ice time per week, with some weeks having more and some having less.  The practice and game schedule for each month will be posted on-line as far in advance as possible.  However, please check www.cascobayhockey.com for possible schedule changes throughout the season (including the day of the scheduled game/practice).

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT Tournament

In addition to the regular season and end-of-year house tournament, each Peewee house team will play at least 3 games in Casco Bay Hockey’s Who Let The Dogs Out Tournament which is to be scheduled for March 2011.  During the tournament, we will need parents to volunteer to be greeters, sell t-shirts, etc.

 Coaching

If you are interested in coaching a Peewee team this season please contact John Veilleux, the coaching director of Casco Bay Hockey at coaching@cascobayhockey.com .  All Peewee head coaches and assistant coaches must be registered with USA Hockey and hold a valid level 3 coaching certificate or higher.  Additional information concerning coaching can be found in the coaching item on the menu to the left.

I look forward to meeting each and everyone of you at evaluations and to an exciting fun filled season!

Shelley Verrill
Peewee Director
