CASCO BAY GIRLS TRAVEL HOCKEY
2010-2011
U12 and U14
The 12-U and 14-U teams will play in the Bay State Girls Hockey League (BSGHL) which is comprised of teams from Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. The BSGHL season usually begins the first weekend of October, and runs through March. These teams will also play four games (2 home/away) against other Maine girls travel teams. These teams will also play additional games and/or tournaments depending upon the interest level of that particular team. Both of these teams will compete for the state championship and USAHockey regional/national titles at the Tier II level.
Tryouts for the U12 team are planned for the week of September 8th - specific dates/times will be posted when the ice is confirmed. Coaching interviews have occurred and an announcement of the coach will be made soon.
TheU14 team is scheduled to begin practices the week of Labor Day. Specific dates/times will be posted as soon as the ice is confirmed. The teams will usually practice twice a week and play a game a week. Doug McKeown has been selected to coach the U14s.
U16/19
The U16/19 team will also begin practices the week of Labor Day with games starting as soon as the Bay State split season begins. This team will play in the Bay State Girls Hockey League as well as Maine travel league. This team is budgeted for 8 practices and 14 games (7 home and 7 away). Practices will end the week the girls high school season begins (usually around November 1) and games will end when the Bay State League's split season ends (usually around November 15th) Per player cost is approximately $250 (assuming 15 players). Jim Witham has been selected to coach the U16/19s.
A decision has not yet been made as to whether this team will compete for a state championsip (and if so, at which age level). The plan is to poll the players at the beginning of the season to determine the interest level for playing after high school season is over and then use those results to formulate any plans. This team will compete for the state championship and USAHockey championships only if sufficient players make the additional commitment to play additional games after the completion of the high school season.
